DESCRIPTION:Please join FOAM\, the Northcoast Environmental Center\, United Way of the Wine Country\, and the City of Arcata on Saturday\, September 19\,  to remove invasive plants and possibly pick up trash. The City will provide tools and gloves\, as well as beverages and snacks for volunteers. Wear long sleeves\, work clothes\, and boots. Volunteers do not need to participate for the entire 4 hours – any time you can give is most welcome! For information on meeting location\, call 825-2163 or email eservices@cityofarcata.org. The Marsh cleanup is part of United Way’s 23rd annual Day of Caring.

DESCRIPTION:Laura Allen will discuss greywater at the D Street Neighborhood Center at 1301 D Street\, Arcata. Laura’s lecture is co-sponsored by FOAM\, the City of Arcata\, Northcoast Environmental Center\, and Humboldt Baykeeper. Laura is the author of The Water-Wise Home: How to Conserve\, Capture\, and Reuse Water in Your Home and Landscape\, and a founding member of Greywater Guerillas\, now Greywater Action (www.greywateraction.org). She gives frequent workshops and classes around the state and has helped develop code for greywater plumbing in several jurisdictions. Her book provides an overview of why water conservation is needed\, problems with current water systems\, methods of saving water inside the home\, and practical how-to directions for installing gray water and rainwater harvesting systems in the yard. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Join volunteers from FOAM\, Redwood Community Action Agency\, and the City of Arcata to help remove invasive cordgrass from the salt marsh area adjacent to South G Street. This workday at the Arcata Marsh is part of the larger Humboldt Bay Spartina abatement project. The city will provide all tools and gloves\, as well as water and pizza for volunteers.
